Individual Psychotherapy For Stress, Anxiety, Sleep & Relationship Issues
Are you struggling with managing stress and anxiety? Does it feel like life is coming at you too fast? If you have trouble settling down at night without reviewing your list of parenting, work-related, or relationship regrets, I’m here for you.
I provide individual psychotherapy to adults who are struggling with stress and anxiety. Anxiety and un-checked stress can touch every aspect of your life, making it difficult to focus, to sleep, to enjoy your life, and be present in your relationships.
My approach to treating anxiety and stress in individual psychotherapy is relationship-focused, integrating mindfulness and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy. You are the focus in the therapy and I am there to guide through research-backed strategies to help you feel in control of your life and your reactions. I have advanced training in Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Dialectical-Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Insomnia. We will artfully use these approaches to help you feel less controlled by your stress and anxiety, so you can sleep easy and be present in your relationships.
Parenting
Parenting is an incredible motivator to be your best self. As we walk through life with our children, we become acutely aware of all our own unresolved issues and difficulties. Without much guidance (or maybe too much guidance), we often parent the way we were parented. But, if you’re reading this, maybe you want to parent differently. If you’re left feeling frustrated and unfulfilled in parenting, we can work together to help you develop a fulfilling approach to parenting so you can have a long-lasting and meaningful relationship with your child.
Having taught child development at four universities, written a parenting book, and being a parent myself, my approach to parenting work is evidence-based and places you at the center. We’ll work through your challenges and goals, infused with the latest child development and parenting research. You’ll likely find that not only can you be a more calm and confident parent, you can be a more calm and confident person in all aspects of your life.
Couples Therapy
Relationships are key to our health and well-being. Research shows that a positive relationship can do all sorts of magic from increasing our lifespan to helping us heal from disease quicker. But, if you’re reading this, your relationship might feel like it’s shortening your lifespan, not extending it. If you’re stuck in a pattern of fights and have lost the joy in your relationship, we can work together to get you back on the right track.
My approach to couples therapy is grounded in strong assessment and evidence-based treatment. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I was trained as a Marriage & Family Therapist and worked as a Relationship Educator for Pepperdine University. I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which helps reduce your activation and frequency of fights. Importantly, it also focuses on all the positives in a relationship, helping you to discover fun and intimacy again.
Disability-Affirming Therapy
Disability identity has been proven to be related to positive psychological well-being. I am proud to be a disability-affirming therapist, who views disability as an important piece of your positive identity. Much of my research has been focused on ableism and disability identity. If a disability is an important aspect of your identity and you’re looking for a psychologist to work with on stress, anxiety, or relationship issues, I’d be happy to work with you.
